At the very beginning of the affair between Michael and Hanna, it was obvious that Michael had no idea what was going on and could not conduct adult actions since he did not possess the psychological maturity to do so. Since he did not have the power or strength to take control of the relationship between him and Hanna, she used this to work towards her advantage. When I say this, I mean that she used her power of persuasion to control Michael and do what she wanted him to do. An example of her conducting this act of blackmail was the passage in part one where she made him read to her in exchange for her love and because Michael is obsessed with Hanna, he obediently does as she requests. The sad part of the whole ordeal is that Michael, after having read, showered, made love to Hanna, believes that he is the with the real power. Though this part only backs my original ideas behind the sick manipulation women conduct towards men, it hurts me to say that this actually happens within relationships across the globe.
