Part Two

Now that Michael has discovered Hanna's lifelong secret, Hanna's actions seem to make a little more sense. Because we now know that she is illiterate, we have an explanation for the way she reacted when Michael left the note as he went to get breakfast and why she would make him read to her. From the start of the book we could tell that Hanna was taking advantage of Michael. She would do anything to make herself seem superior to him. Reading is something that most people are now able to do by the age of at least eight, so I guess for Hanna being illiterate was something she was extremely self conscious and ashamed about. For th`at reason, she always felt the need to assert herself around others. She would not let her guard down ever, even when it came to accusing her as a murderer.
I thought she really crossed the line when she admitted to writing the book just so she would not have to write something. She rather have people think that she is a heatless murderer rather than a 40 year old illiterate women. She is risking to live the rest of her life in prison just to keep her secret safe. I strongly think Michael should speak up and say something. If he is already feeling guilty about not being with her which isn't even his fault, I cant imagine how he's going to feel is he knew there was a way he could have helped Hanna.
